“Endless Run”, 3:59 min, 2023/2026
In 2023, I developed my own virtual art museum in the form of a computer game called KINBURN. It preserves and reimagines my site-specific video installations beyond their temporary physical existence.
Now I am working with the objects of this museum.
In the video, the game’s character runs—day and night—along the shore of the virtual KINBURN island. The horizon line is always at her eye level. One can imagine that she absorbs the space with her gaze or, conversely, projects it around herself.
Anna Sokolova (* 1975 in Minsk, Belarus) explores the interplay between architectural space and the moving image. Working with video, she creates site-specific installations that merge with their architectural context to form a single, pulsating organism, thereby reimagining our perception of space. Her artistic language is characterized by a consistent reduction of visual elements, a deliberate avoidance of narrative components, an analytical engagement with the media employed, and the integration of the exhibition space as an essential part of her multimedia works.
After studying monumental painting at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, she continued her art education at Le Fresnoy – National Studio for Contemporary Arts in France, followed by the Düsseldorf Art Academy (in the classes of Daniel Buren and David Rabinowitch) and the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM). Since 2005 lives and works in Düsseldorf.
